Project 103: Deanhill Road

This project entailed making a large open kitchen with dining area and a living area to relax and have cocktails. The challenges were that the site is significantly higher than the level of the garden and a raised decking was built to make a continuous indoor/outdoor room. A window to the side also gives additional light as does a frameless sky window, bringing natural daylight deep into the room. The windows are floor to ceiling height to maximise the outdoor/indoor feel. A built-in woodburner gives the space a cosy feel in the winter and 6 different pases of lighting design further enhances the ambiance and atmosphere. African Zebrano wood was used for the floor: some in herringbone and some straight lines, and for the kitchen worktops, splashbacks and tall kitchen cupboards. The use of this noble material juxtaposes with the shiny white kitchen which creates a pleasing contrast. The eye is drawn to the sky and the huge sliding doors create a indoor/outdoor space.
