Extension and refurbishment of a listed house in a conservation area
“the challenge was to extend in contemporary fashion in a conservation area”
Pablo Lambrechts
Where: Sheen Lane, East Sheen, Richmond, Greater London, London, UK
Description: Rear Extension and internal refurbishment of dwelling house in a Conservation Area.
Notes: Side return and rear extension and creation of an open plan space.
Concept: The idea was to open the house up to the rear garden whilst retaining the character of the Conservation Area and the house itself. The palette of exterior materials is restricted to reclaimed bricks and exposed concrete framing a combination of sliding and bi-folding doors and windows. The windows above the kitchen worktop create an alternative bar from the outside for the summer months.
Interior: to allow for each subspace forming the open plan, to develop its own character to enhance conviviality and sense of wellbeing.
