A new build house developed under Passivhaus standards using modern methods of construction (MMC).
Where: East Sheen, Richmond, Greater London, London, UK
Description: New build consisting of full footprint basement and three stories above ground. A sustainable approach and strategy was agreed and developed since the outset of the project. The construction strategy is based on MMC (Modern Methods of Construction) with prefabricated pods for the bathroom units and 2D panels and CLT for the overall structure. The sustainability protocol is based on PassivHaus standards in which the supply of renewable energy is based on Air Source Heat Pumps, heat recovery systems and solar PV panels.
Notes:The palette of materials for the exterior has been carefully considered and a sustainable cladding of Shou Sugi Ban charred wood has been selected as a cladding material, and also a sustainably treated wood cladding, consisting in artificial fossilisation with silicon compounds.
Concept: The design approach is contextual in its typology and morphology and obtained planning consent in December 2019. The finishes are designed to achieve the highest specification standards avoiding the use of toxic fumes or petrochemical derivates.
Interior: The approach to the extended areas is to create a fluid space that seamlessly transitions between the existing areas to the modern added areas retaining the features, scale and overall proportions. The interior finishes and materials are based on reclaimed parquet flooring and restored wall wood cladding.
